This spooky fun holiday can be just plain scary for Big Dogs.
This spooky fun holiday can be just plain scary for Big Dogs. Car loads of unknown kids and parents around their neighborhood, strange, talking lawn decorations and never before heard chilling sounds everywhere.
What’s a Big Dog to do to keep his family safe?
Let’s keep him safe first and foremost:
Keep Halloween decor off the floor and at a height he can’t get caught in cobwebs and lights.
Put away all candy -this amount of xylitol is fatal to your dog- locked up, placed in upper cabinets or in a pantry.
If your puppy isn’t participating in the shenanigans, this might be a good night for a treat ball in his crate or a back bedroom.
If she is, make sure her costume is breathable, she has a fur coat on under that sheet! Has nothing dangling over her head to suddenly startle her and doesn’t cover her eyes, nose or mouth.
Keep water with you on the walk.
While walking with her, be observant of dropped candy and costume pieces she could swallow. Neighbor’s decor at her height.
Keep his training in mind; if you are working on barking, a never ending stream of strangers is going to test the limits!
Reassure her that everything is fine by not making a big deal about anything-it’s just her Humans being a little weirder than normal!
Let her check out the decor. Try the costumes on early and let her sniff the unusual clothing, and insure it’s really you and her kids under there.
Play the frightening music while sitting next to her.
Allow a few known friends to come up to her 1st and remove their masks, “It’s just Tommy and Sarah!”.
Have treats for her, to keep from begging for the toxic ones.
Give your Big Dogs a place to go if the noise and sounds are a bit too much. Check on her more often than usual.
Include her in a few of the games and events, what about a Dog Costume Contest for your Neighborhood!
Goings on for all our Big Dogs, all over the world!
